Consider how, in times of tragedy, when resources are very limited, people come together as one, share resources and pull together in a relief effort. People that never knew each other, talked to each other and some that never got along will come together in a time of crisis. Perhaps it will take a global catastrophe to shake up the world. The pessimism is well taken but I wouldn't go so far as to completely cut off the possibility for positive human interaction, a collective mentality and the recognition of such.
