My tack on ethics these days concerns public choice theories.  My
guess is I believe it's so easy to fake sincerity and so difficult to
spot lying from behavioural cues (and so easy for many to believe they
can) that we need to give up on virtue based ethics in public affairs
in favour of transparency in public scrutiny.  The philosophical
approach to this is through the problem of 'dirty hands', but all
issues in this area are dogged by the ease with which rhetorical
abilities can be used to dominate.
