Wait, hold on, that was a gimmick title. The title is really “My God
*Explains* Way More Than your God.” My god does not explain
everything, but as you will see, it clearly does eliminate vast
oceans of troubling questions that have arisen.
So let’s get started. First of all, I am a simple guy, that
should be obvious, and I like things explained simply as possible.
This post is really no more than a Billy Mays infomercial for my god,
so hopefully you will take it as such. (don’t use his voice in your
head though, I don’t want to be any more obnoxious than I already
am) But that does not mean it does not contain valuable information
for you and your family! Simplify your spiritual life with my god!
My god is simply all of the energy of the universe. It’s that
easy! But wait! There’s more! This has tremendous potential for
eliminating those pesky questions. My god clearly exists! It can be
seen! No more invisible gods! It can be felt, measured, tested, used
anytime you want, and is 100% reliable! What more could you ask from
a god? Can YOUR god do all that?
Every god has a price, and no, this one is not $9.95 in three easy
installments. My god has a bigger price but not without its
benefits. It depends how you look at it. You see, my god is amoral.
Ouch! That seems like too high a price! It is for most of you. My
god has no morality at all. Physics does not have morality does it?
Does electricity “care”? No. Do subatomic particles care about
you? No. They are just too busy. Boy are they busy!
But on the positive side this completely wipes out vast amounts of
questions. It explains all the murders, wars, volcanoes that kill
innocents, baby deaths, everything. Wiped clean and explained. God
doesn’t care.
God just does physics, that is what my god does. You might say “that
is not a god!” You might be right but others have picked wackier
gods. My god is an entity, and that entity is energy. Energy is found
in living things, I say it qualifies.
There is no LOVE? A god without love and without care or feelings
you say? Unacceptable. I know! Talk about a jagged pill to swallow!
But wait there’s more! I am not taking love away from you. You get
to make all you want. And morality? We invented it! You get to
keep it, and I think you should. Fantastic invention!
Boy do you people love your love. That is what I love about you.
But where did your god come from? Look, I have a simple way to
look at this, in fact you can use it to explain your gods too. I
won’t say a word against it. My god always existed. It doesn’t need
a creator because that would require a beginning point to create.
Well there is no beginning and no end. And! That is what we have
discovered about energy! It can’t be created or destroyed.
Coincidence? Maybe….
But what about the big bang? Again, I have a simple answer, I
don’t want to get into all that metaphysical heavy lifting. It was
just that the universe had collapsed into a point from the last go
‘round and exploded again. Repeat , then rinse. Some say this
universe will not collapse this time. Give it an eternity and get
back to me OK? It is a waste of valuable energy thinking about stuff
like that in my opinion, let’s keep it simple.
But how do you explain life? Oh, right….life. Well I look at it
like this: when you look at non-living things at the subatomic level
there is a lot of marvel going on. This physics thing, this energy
god is unbelievably complicated. And when you look at life on a sub
atomic level , which is made up of the very same stuff, well it is
hard to say that one is more marvelous than the other. I think it is
quite possible that energy made life too, with the same process. See,
energy is combining and recombining matter 24 hours a day with
supercomputer calculations contained in a single particle. Multiply
that by billions of years.
Non-life looks alive at the subatomic level, the two are
indistinguishable. And I am saying that energy is life, and itself is
alive, at least at that level. It is all marvelous!
And when you back up and look at the universe in a macro sense, I
don’t see Jupiter any less marvelous than a pine cone. Sure life in
unbelievably cool. It seems so distinct! It is. But maybe it is
just another wondrous combination pattern of energy? It could be,
there is no evidence against that idea. You have some evidence
against it? Love to hear it.
You wanted wordy? This is as wordy as I am going to get, I
promise.
Well, other benefits does your god have? Glad you asked!
My god does have books, but with a distinct advantage. My god uses
science. Updated regularly, and peer reviewed by everybody. Your god
can’t say that! My god does not rely solely on ancient text written
by long dead people. Everything is explained in detail. No long
winded guru poems, no funny hats. Well scientists are long winded
and might dress funny but at least clarity is primary. My god is
testable, yours are not. My god has more tangible benefits.
Yours is not even tangible. But you get the intangible benefits, I
will give you that. That seems way more important to you, I get
it. My god is not as comforting as yours, at least mentally, but my
god has heat to keep me warm and it is great with food. Some rather
large trade-offs, I admit, I am just saying that my god explains
more, that is all I am saying. And! New answers arrive daily.
So let’s review: you don’t have to pray, go to church, or try and
explain why god let your baby die. No outfits, no kneeling down, no
wrath, no punishment except death (which I admit is a “bummer”) ,
worship only if you feel like it, no donations, no rhetoric, and
predictions are possible with my god. Other gods have a really lousy
track record on predictions let me tell you. My god has the potential
to be figured out, in fact small areas already have. Because your god
cannot be tested there is little in the way to “do” to advance any
understanding of him. You will plug away at the practice and I don’t
see how anything will ever get answered until you are dead, and that
could be too late. It just seems like a non assertive , non-
productive strategy for answers is all I am saying. You can study my
god every day, try and figure out new features, a whole lot to
interact with when you accept my god.
That is unless god talks to you. I would imagine that is why you
stick with it, and admitting you talk to god , or listen to god is a
very vulnerable and dangerous thing. I feel for you on that one.
Some people in here resort to using the word “feel” him, which is so
much safer and I certainly understand why you choose that approach. I
believe that you feel him, or rather I believe you have the feelings
and that they are powerful. I will not offer an explanation for
that, nor deny you that. My sole task here is to offer a simpler,
easier alternative that explains more yet feels absolutely horrible
emotionally. Some here have adapted so well, that is so impressive.
These are STRONG people to face down these ideas. That applies to the
atheists and the unfeeling god that I offer. I can see why you would
not choose it. Just weigh the benefits verses the costs. I think my
god has a lot going for it, especially in the explanation department!
