Maybe we've signed up to 40 years in Afghanistan because they know it
will be the last place on Earth above sea-level Chris? Stuck for
something to do in a research methods class last term I asked them to
conduct a poll on themselves on global warming and then do a little
test on how much they know about it. No one was honest enough in the
poll to state they didn't have a clue (beyond CO2 evil) but they could
all produce nice graphs on the opinions expressed as though they knew
what they were talking about. Given the test results showing
correlation with a control group of monkeys on global warming
knowledge, they were asked to design an experiment to discover
conditions of personal incompetence - only 10% realising they had just
been part of one. Gore Inc will not be the answer for sure, but how
are we supposed to sensibly recognise what might be in the current
conditions of ignorance.
