Chris, two points: 1) Gates and Buffet are rightly famous for their philanthropism. Wouldn't you agree that these two people are exceptional cases and holding them up as an advert for disproportionate individual wealth is a little dishonest?
2) Giving away 85% of such enormous wealth probably had no material affect on Warren Buffet. If I gave away 10% of my wealth, damn, I'd feel that by the end of the month. That would be like me giving away 20p, probably less.
