Democracy, we might say, is a good thing. Democracy is freedom and a necessary progressive step for all countries. We believe in it so much, in fact, that we'll die for it. Or at least send our soldiers to die for it. We'll regard countries that appear undemocratic with disdain and haughty superiority. In the search for absolute philosophical truth (as hoped for by BB in another thread), democracy is a pretty sure bet.
So be proud, then, when you see what our invasion of Afghanistan and the instilment of democracy has achieved there. By the power of this wonderful thing called democracy, Shia men have now been granted the right to beat and starve their wife if they deny them sex. A law, by the way, which works very nicely with legalised rape within marriage. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/aug/14/afghanistan-womens-rights-rape Ian --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups ""Minds Eye"" group.
