That report is a load of hooey for the most part. One point completely
undiscussed in favour of the sweeping declaration of "hungry" poor is
the fact that obesity in america is a lower middle class/low income
phenomena. In fact, western/American culture is the first in history
to have the poor as the rotund, rather than the wealthy. The claim of
whether someone has "adequate" access to food or not is asinine in a
nation of foodstamps, soup kitchens, food banks, etc. In my area alone
it is often said that there is a "crisis" regading lack of food.
Although nearly everyone on foodstamps is automatically added to every
list regarding hunger, the dozens of people that i personally know on
them spend them early in the month on soda pop, snack food, and
microwave meals. They then go to food banks as often as possible,
sometimes driving quite a distance to them, to get the basic
essentials and/or meat.

I'm not saying that some people aren't genuinely hungry; invariably
there will be people, nearly always children and elderly, that fall
through the cracks or can't provide for themselves. But, I have
hitchhiked across america 7 times and have personally witnessed as
well as researched ther various issues regarding the poor. When these
"hungry" people sell their x-boxes, plasma t.v.s, and other
ridiculously unnecessary belongings for food, then and only then
should they be added to these lists.

The average american poor person eats far better than most of the rest
of the worlds "middle" class.
