Let's not forget that gasoline accounts for only about half our oil usage. Second largest use of oil is in the production of plastics. Lubrication may be the third, I'm not sure, but gasoline and plastics are almost using oil evenly. And plastics take even longer to degrade and how many billions of gallons of oil is piled high in our dump sites in the form of plastic?!
