It seems the only natural resources are salt and limestone the
question is how much of this they can produce for export. Also there
are only 20 sq/mi of irrigated land which is less than 5 percen of
it's total areat. A canal system could be useful. Yes? Desalination of
the sea water is an increasing dependancy. With 196.8 km of coastline
plus 56.01 km for the island of Gozo and it's fair climate it makes
for prime tourism. 25 nm of exclusive fishing territory surrounds the
coast, I wonder if there are resources within those limits that would
be worth mining on the sea floor. The country comprises an
archipelago, with only the three largest islands (Malta, Ghawdex or
Gozo, and Kemmuna or Comino) being inhabited; numerous bays provide
good harbors; Malta and Tunisia are discussing the commercial
exploitation of the continental shelf between their countries,
particularly for oil exploration.
