My lack of desire to move back is probably rather selfish. My children are here. Plus, this spondylosis I've got--that causes me my migrains and fibromyalgia--would be almost impossible to address if I were jobless in the States. The NHS is a great benefit to both the employed and unemployed in the UK. Health Insurance is assured here and, in my opinion, should be whole-heartedly embraced by America. But Capitalism is the State religion in the US, so the neo-cons who follow that great British Prophet, Adam Smith, stand against it as a fundamental of theirfreedom to express their religious views. And, when in power or opposition to power, use that freedom to oppress others with their beliefs. I think that's what Smith's "invisible hand of the market" turned into, at least, in modern expressions of capitalism. Smith himself would be appalled by the amount of unemployment in today's world, as he felt labour was the key mechanism behind national wealth. A nation's wealth, though, isn't just about employment, as there's a moral wealth that is completely ignored by the ruthlessness of applied capitalism. Capitalism divides society into 2 parts: the rich and the poor. Socialism, to some extent, tries to redress the balance and bring that excess 'wealth' back into a useful form for society's poor. If America doesn't try to protect the well-being of its own poor, then they will be forced to defend themselves against an enemy government, and, the Declaration of Independence, whilst NOT the Constitution, still lays down a framework granting justification for such a self- defence if presented with "...a long chain of abuses and usurpations pursuing, invariably, the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism...". > > > > > On Wed, Aug 4, 2010 at 7:44 PM, gabbydott <[email protected]> wrote: > > Thanks for letting us know, Pat! :-) > > > On 4 Aug., 18:01, ornamentalmind <[email protected]> wrote: > > > Excellent Pat! > > > > On Aug 4, 5:53 am, Chris Jenkins <[email protected]> wrote: > > > > > Glad to hear it, Pat.
