I think the family within is an interesting propositon and perhaps
more easily grasped than the superego, ego and id (the "kid") but it
raises some doubts since the quest entails leaving the father/mother
and even killing them off. What do children who have had goofy or evil
parents do for a model? The relationship is so intense and dependent
it might take decades to stand on one's own. Part of youth is
rebellion or longing to be someone else's child but later on accepting
the strengths and positives of parents with empathy- if possible.
There also seems to be a generational leap of behaviors, I have
noticed- whether this is genetic, I don't know- but this may also be a
form of opposition. It often concerns sexual behavior, attitudes
towards money, various addictions but also fields of interest and
careers.
