The Bible may be liked because it promises forgiveness/eternal life, etc. And a large part of human misery is that it is very difficult to forgive oneself or others. There was an article in the NYTimes about "survivor guilt" of the soldiers- often leading to suicide- but oddly, my meditation book (for co-dependants- as we all are) had the same theme and title. The "meaning of life" can be hamstrung by the past and relationships.
