All our nations seem more like what they aren't supposed to be than
models of their own propaganda.
I've found freelancing (originates from mercenary) tough - partly
because agencies often tout dud jobs that don't exist or at fees not
really on offer.  Teaching is my fall back and I've done some
ghosting.  The bane has been research and getting paid as promised and
other people to meet deadlines.  It would have been easier to stay in
a full-time post - but one has to chance the arm.
