Sure enough has been left out of the system build, even though it is
documented to be there. It needs to be _vsnprintf().

$ objdump -x /c/Windows/system32/msvcrt.dll | grep printf
        [ 216] _cprintf
        [ 224] _cwprintf
        [ 467] _scprintf
        [ 468] _scwprintf
        [ 482] _snprintf
        [ 484] _snwprintf
        [ 541] _vscprintf
        [ 542] _vscwprintf
        [ 543] _vsnprintf
        [ 544] _vsnwprintf
        [ 671] fprintf
        [ 684] fwprintf
        [ 741] printf
        [ 761] sprintf
        [ 786] swprintf
        [ 800] vfprintf
        [ 801] vfwprintf
        [ 802] vprintf
        [ 803] vsprintf
        [ 804] vswprintf
        [ 805] vwprintf
        [ 828] wprintf
