As a matter of fact i didnt. i wasn't even aware that this was required,
and i will try to do that right now.

Yes, but i noticed their effort in the latest Qt SDK installer to provide
a MinGW version. So i thought to myself "if some people make an
effort and help patching, why not also using MinGW (And MinGW-w64
by extension) for Qt IFW too?"... Also, even if their first reaction could
be a bit odd, i think they might be trying to not waste too much time
on users having very "exotic" requests. That's also one reason i
decided to initiate the first move.
As a last reason, i could have stuck to MSVC or MinGW (As MinGW-w64
only interesting point for me being delay-loaded DLLs, but not
working ATM), i still believe a lot in the MinGW-w64 project, and
i think this kind of step would highly promote the whole toolchain
to more people.
