The last time I investigated, I ended up with this information:

There is a difference in what GCC does when building libstdc++ and what
Clang does when generating code itself, leading to an ABI incompatibility.
I've thought about attempting to build libstdc++ with Clang, but I doubt
that is easily feasible.
