This is a bug in autoconf. It's fixed in newer autoconf versions, but
remains in configure scripts that were generated by the old ones.
Patch configure script by finding the line:
ac_cs_awk_cr='\\r'
and replacing it with
ac_cs_awk_cr='\r'
Alternatively you can do autoreconf, which will (or should, at least)
rebuild configure with patched status.m4 that you get from the autoconf
package that sbuild installed.
