I'm using MSYS makefiles, otherwise you don't get very far... One nit is
the platform detection (as of 2.8.12.2) doesn't quite work as it defaults
to NMake Makefiles and I found a recent bug report on their tracker but
it's gone ignored since 2012 and I had a similar problem with one related
to cross-compiling w/ a patch provided. They seem to just fxi/work on what
they're interested in...

Working on getting MSYS 2 installed but the Wifi here at the hospital sucks
(taking an aging parent in for a procedure) so I'll have to try again from
home.
