`_ASSERT_EXPR` was called `_ASSERT_BASE` some years ago, as seen in Windows 2003 SP1 Platform SDK, which can still be downloaded for free. Both `_ASSERT` and `_ASSERTE` were implemented with `_ASSERT_BASE`.
