reason is that they can be used as an advanced wireless access point and
provide good support for the latest wireless security technologies. You

driver, or works with an open source driver but with a subset of the
features or has a driver that cannot work with WPA-enabled access point for
example.
Senao and NetGate both provide cards with PRISM chips, extended ranges and a
variety of antenna options. There are others of course, but my personal
experience with those cards was a good one.

Any card should do. We have mostly built-in (laptop) Intel ipw2100 and
ipw2200 interfaces. We generally just use those that are well supported
on Linux.

I was in contact with Lars Strand in November, and he said he was going
to update it, but was busy with his real work at the time.
