If you have access to a serial console, then you should also have
access to the uboot firmware prompt?  If so, have you tried the
classic net-booting the kernel and nfs/card/other-mounted rootfs?
Or are you locked out of uboot somehow?  Sorry if this question was
previously covered and I missed it...
