Hi Andy,

It looks lkike it is a VIA ARM CPU-based VT8500 SOC.

For terminals you may need the following package:
sysv-rc from debian distro
creates /etc/rcX.d (where X is the number of terminals)
 
For compiling kernel modules for 3rd party hardware: 
- link the /lib/modules/2.6.XX/build to the sourcefiles of the kernel
- install libssl-dev from debian distro
