I really hope this would a misconfiguration as I have the same problem
(OpenSMTPd latest snapshot with Debian 7.0 amd64) :p
No problem with "table uauth { denis => denis:mypass }" but crash with
"table uauth passwd:/etc/dovecot/users.db"
