My network interface to LAN gigabit switch appears intermittent.
LEDs on switch and on motherboard ethernet port
both cycle through blinking for several seconds, then
off for several seconds
ping just to router drops more than 50% of traffic
ifconfig sometimes shows:
media: Ethernet autoselect
status: no carrier
and sometimes shows:
media: Ethernet autoselect (1000baseT full-duplex)
status: active
I have a Tyan Tiger K8W motherboard with integrated
Intel Pro/1000MT (82541EI):

Network switch is Netgear GS608.
cables have been swapped - no improvement
another computer has gigabit NIC and connects fine to switch
at gigabit speed using same cable.

(first noticed using a RAID with autoconfig kernel, but
problem present with just GENERIC kernel)
