Why are you making it so hard on yourself? The instructions to
recompile a kernel are listed in the FAQ. If you're going another way
than GENERIC (or the kernels supplied with the install package),
you're *on your own*. The FAQ states such very clearly.

If you need further clarification as to why you're on your own, I
heartily recommend reading the list archives, e.g. through MARC or
Gmane.

As advice in casu, recompile a complete kernel if you absolutely must
have something different from GENERIC. At least you'll have the
compilation instructions. That said, let me repeat that anyone reading
this list will probably tell you you're on your own.
