At the risk of sounding discourteous, you should get yourself a proper
test environment. That way you can leave your production equipment
alone.
Not discourteous at all, it's a good suggestion. But a pointer as to
what constitutes a proper test environment would be better ;-)
Fortunately, getting an indication of what trying out -current would
bring you may be as simple as booting bsd.rd. These kernels come with
the snapshots on the FTP servers. It will not be as good as a complete
test install; but it may just be worth your while.
Ah, even better suggestion. This is something I can try almost
immediately. And the results are that I can reproduce the freeze problem
with:
bsd~RED5OF5 (stable+raidframe)
bsd.rd (generic, from the install CD)
bsd~GENERIC (generic, from the install CD)
bsd~CURRENT (current, from
ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/snapshots/i386/ dated 7/12/2005
12:42:00 PM)
bsd.rd~CURRENT (current, from
ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/snapshots/i386/ dated 7/12/2005
12:42:00 PM)
Doesn't look good :-(
