I think you might want to take a look at Xnest. While it won't allow you to to switch with function keys, it would allow you to have more than one user logged in to a graphical interface and "switch" users. I've done this before. It's similar to the "fast user switching" feature of Mac OS X, and Windows XP, albeit with a quick stop at the logon screen to choose the user (note that the other user does not get logged out). --Bryan
