Yes, I don't use KDM so I can't really give you the answer, but what I
know is that you should start KDM from /etc/ttys using a line like
(can't give you the exact line) :
ttyXX "/usr/local/bin/kdm -nodaemon" ...
Search on google and in the archives, I've seen this question a few
times already.
