not really; it is *expected* that modern machines do not work correctly
if acpi is disabled. some devices may not work correctly. your thermal
control may not work correctly so the machine may overheat. but sometimes
it will work well enough to get additional information.

but anyway as mentioned elsewhere, disable acpivideo will probably get
things going for now.
