The update was from something ancient like 4.5 or so, which didn't yet
have smtpd. Among other things, getting smtpd was one of the reasons for
the update, so unfortunately I can't tell. I might still have one other
computer still running 4.7 for which I've long been planning to install
a similar setup; as soon as I get there I can give it a try.
Since that one will need upgrading anyway, I can then also do a quick
test with 4.8 as well.
