Short answer, no. > My intend is to boot from an external usb stick and to have root device > in the box configured with softraid and keydisk. Why do you want to boot from an external USB stick instead of booting from the hard disk? You can still use softraid crypto with a keydisk and it will now automatically select the softraid volume as your root device, if you run installboot on the softraid volume. See Josh Grosse's recent undeadly article for ideas: http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20111002154251 Or Stefan Sperling's older one article (with some minor tweaks - basically skip the GENERIC customisation with a hardcoded root device): http://www.undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20110530221728 -- "Reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it. Do not count on them. Leave them alone." -- Ayn Rand
