the Echo Layla 3G is PCI powered (by breakout cable), so it is possible. Good audio performance does not require high power. It's not that the M-Audio is completely out of the question because of this external power supply, but it is one more part to carry around (this crossover will be used at many places), i. e. to be forgotten.
