Try rewinding the tape: mt rewind

This could be happening: /dev/nrst0 is a
non-rewinding device.  After
a close it will not rewind automatically like
/dev/rst0 does. So dump
closes the file, but your restore starts at the
current position.

Thanks Otto, my bad - I
should have said that the script does end with a rewind command, and I
have
also tried using mt rewind (and rewoffl followed by loading a different
cartridge) only tog get an
identical result.
