Many people on this list have been using OpenBSD for firewalling and routing in
production environments for a long time. Some people have started companies
selling supported firewall systems with OpenBSD. Some people consult and
install OpenBSD systems in their normal course of business.

These days, vendor-supported devices are simply outgrowths of some publically
available implementation (except for the some of the high-end stuff created by
huge teams of engineers at companies like Cisco and Juniper). The smaller ones
are pretty much all Linux-based routers, firewalls, modems. The companies that
make mass-market SoCs for DSL and wireless include a Linux development
environment, drivers, the whole bit.

Replacing Cisco boxes is a matter of interfaces and features. If you need to
support ATM, Frame Relay, or Packet-over-Sonet, don't get rid of your Cisco
device.

Do you have any particular questions? What are you attempting to replace?

Chris
