First track is outer-most, hence faster linear transfer rates at beginning of disk, e.g. http://mralpha.s3.amazonaws.com/SAMSUNG-HD501LJ-690G-MrAlpha.png But it's generalization in terms of modern firmware. -- Michał Markowski
