I have always purchased dell servers but I got screwed by adaptec.

Dell hasn't shipped Adaptec for the last 2 generations of servers. It is currently all mpt(4) and ami(4). Actually their stuff is pretty well supported. Recently we added ipmi(4) which is supported upwards from the x6xx generation servers. And currently esm(4) is being developed which adds sensor support for older <= x5xx servers. Also on the older servers you can plug a PERC 3/DC for RAID support, including internal disks. The ami(4) stuff is supported by bioctl(8).

Disclaimer: this isn't true for the SC line of "servers".

Does HP, IBM, or anyone else provide a 1u rack mount server with hardware raid that is fully supported by OpenBSD? Or do I have to go to each vendor and get them to tell me the chipset for each part?

IBM does mostly adaptec
HP does adaptec, cac(4) and ciss(4)
None of these are currently supported by bioctl(8).

There are some other boards like gdt(4) which are pretty good and could be dropped in just about any box.

  Thanks,

  John
