You may want to just get some first-hand experience: compare the (Open, Net and Free) BSD's yourself. Think of what (set of) task(s) you want to accomplish and your other requirements. Start with the installation routines, continue with configuring the system and your applications, etc. For your case, only your own judgement is final. Get three simple hard drives and create test installations for the hardware you intend to use. Testing and experimenting early will save you major headaches later on. If the above seems to tell you to go ahead and try doing your work on all three of the BSD's, you're right. Doing so will get you some BSD-experience at the very least; likely also a sound judgement on where to go next. Cheers, Rogier -- If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there.
