Everywhere they scan into your luggage and are entitled to open it. When you go to the states, you even need to provide a suitcase which can be rightfully opened (and of course, we all know that absolutely only authorized personnel will have that key) As soon as you turn on your cell-phone, your carrier knows you are abroad and sends you an SMS as will of course the roaming-carrier know. I have never worried about my MAC address in all this.
