I have two USB ports (at least, ones I can plug into): one is labeled with a USB symbol and a battery symbol; that one works and shows up as uhub2. The other is labeled with a SS followed by a USB symbol; this one does not work and adds nothing to the dmesg. Just in case this is useful: $ usbdevs -v Controller /dev/usb0: addr 1: high speed, self powered, config 1, EHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x8086), rev 1.00 port 1 addr 2: high speed, self powered, config 1, Rate Matching Hub(0x0024), Intel(0x8087), rev 0.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered port 3 addr 3: full speed, power 100 mA, config 1, Biometric Coprocessor(0x2020), Auth(0x147e), rev 0.01 port 4 addr 4: full speed, self powered, config 1, BCM20702A0(0x21e6), Broadcom Corp(0x0a5c), rev 1.12, iSerialNumber F4B7E2CEFD3D port 5 powered port 6 addr 5: high speed, power 500 mA, config 1, Integrated Camera(0xb315), SunplusIT INC.(0x04f2), rev 36.22 port 2 powered port 3 powered Controller /dev/usb1: addr 1: high speed, self powered, config 1, EHCI root hub(0x0000), Intel(0x8086), rev 1.00 port 1 addr 2: high speed, self powered, config 1, Rate Matching Hub(0x0024), Intel(0x8087), rev 0.00 port 1 powered port 2 powered port 3 powered port 4 powered port 5 powered port 6 powered port 7 powered port 8 powered port 2 powered port 3 powered -Mike
