By now my usual strategy is to nuke all of
/usr/{bin,games,include,lib*,mdec,sbin,share}
rather than trying to keep up with individual file removals.
(Hint for people who upgrade without install kernel: nuking /usr/bin
kills gzip, which in turn makes tar -x -z impossible. Decompress
your sets beforehand.)
