I'd suggest playing with the MP and/or APIC settings in the bios. I'm
not familiar with the newer intel chipsets, so I can't really offer
much more than that.

That sounds like it is a PCI problem with the bios. I've got mine
running with the 813G firmware in a dual-opteron server, dmesg for
possible reference and amusement:
