Could you try the following (vga(4)):
/usr/sbin/wsconscfg -d -F 1 && /usr/sbin/wsconscfg -t 80x25bf -e vt100 1
and compare the results for ttyC0 (16 different colors by default) & ttyC1 (8
colors now)?
