Because nobody sent a diff to unify ifconfig(8) ? If you can also merge "vlandev", "carpdev", "syncdev" and "pppoedev" in the same fashion, that would be awesome. I'd suggest "parent" since that's the term we use, but others might have a better idea. Of course backward compatibility is needed ;)
