The old installed version was indeed the problem, 'pkg_delete libreoffice' followed by 'pkg_add libreoffice' bumped me to 4.4.3.2 which works as expected. First time I see a package failing to upgrade this way, though. Maybe I missed something with the jump to snapshots itself ? Anyway, case solved. Thank you.
