Many thanks all for your replies, Apologies for not including dmesg output, it's attached now for install60.fs and install61.fs on the Sony VPCSA. Thanks Stuart for the link.
I have tried: 1. BIOS settings. Couldn't see anything "legacy", "SATA", "security" related. 2. Installing from latest snapshot (using openbsd.hk mirror) - see dmesg. To no avail. Cannot see the internal hard drive during install or on the running (from a USB stick) system. Couple of other observations gleaned while going through this process: 1. wireless hardware is recognised but whennever I try to configure it am told it is disabled by hardware key. There is a hardware switch on the laptop, but it is in the on position. 2. 6.0 recognises the wired ethernet hardware (I can configure and use it), 6.1 doesn't seem to (at least, I cannot configure it).
