There is an issue with support of Sil3114 in 3.8 which will eventually led to a panic and trashed filesystem. Fixed in current. I've been using the Tyan 2881 board (essentially the same as 2882) without any problems after merging in the changes for Sil3114 support. Use ATA drives or drop in a scsi adapter.
