$SERVER_NAME uses the name you have specified at ‘server “default”’
which is “default” in this case.

Exactly, $HTTP_HOST should be used instead of $SERVER_NAME for what
you want to do.

the line in httpd.conf now reads

"https://$HTTP_HOST$REQUEST_URI";
i now get the following in firefox
