I would not call the manual "useless" unless it's *wrong* in some way. But it's true that the source code is the best documentation for what a program *actually* does, provided that one is able and willing to read it. For someone who is not proficient in C, the source code is often lousy documentation. I'll leave it to others to decide whether this is a "documentation bug" for mg(1) or not.
