Hi,

I want to configure multiple alias IPs on the same interface and in the same
subnet.
(reason: hosting services with dedicated DNS names and IPs)

inet 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
inet alias 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0
inet alias 10.0.0.3 255.255.255.255
...

What is the correct subnet mask for those alias IPs?
The intention is that services will bind to their dedicated IP (e.g., 10.0.0.2)
and communicate with local/remote networks using that source IP. To the network
it should look as if there are X independent hosts (I am aware that ARP will
say otherwise).

>From this it seems that the alias netmask should be the same as the main IP
>(e.g., /24) due to routing and broadcasts. But some sources state it should be
>/32.

I have not found a real technical argumentation in the archives, only
recommendations:

Other answers also seem to differ between operating systems...

Anyone with good background/network knowledge who can shed light on this?
Thanks!

/Robert
