The last time I logged on an ubiquiti switch (not a router) on SSH, I was wondering why there was no bridge/switch interface showing up on the interface list. It looks like there is an userland process controlling the switching, probably communicating to a dedicated chip, maybe a dedicated ASIC. As far as I remember, an strace on it did show some ioctl() to some custom /dev/... device. So it looks like a comparison between hardware accelerated routing vs in-kernel routing off the CPU. -- Josuah
